The Committee on Agrarian Policy, Water Resources, Ecology and Regional Development reviewed a draft government order on Approval of the Draft Credit Agreement between the Governments of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Saudi Fund for Development regarding the Development of Water Supply and Sanitation in Rural Areas Project.
Director of the Drinking Water Supply and Sanitation Development Department Askarbek Toktoshev told that the project aims to improve the availability and quality of water supply in the villages of Batken and Talas oblasts.
Thus, according to the agreement, the total amount of funding is $ 60 million, of which $ 30 million is allocated by the Saudi Fund for Development, $ 20 million – by the Islamic Development Bank. Loan funds are provided for a period of 25 years, including 5 years of grace period, at 1% per annum.
“The project is aimed at development of water supply and sanitation systems in approximately 70 villages in Batken and Talas oblasts to serve about 146 thousand people. Co-financing of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic is $ 10 million. As soon as the ratification is completed, the project will begin to be implemented. The term of the project itself is 4.5 years,” the head of the department added.
Following the discussion, members of the committee supported this draft order of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.
